Which custom holster formats can be developed?
The platform spans IWB, AIWB, OWB, duty, competition, shoulder, chest and modular concepts. A product family may share visual language and components, but each materially different fit, light configuration, carry position or retention architecture needs its own approval basis.
Concealed carry
IWB and AIWB concepts balance profile, access, clip geometry, ride position and user-contact edges around the intended configuration.
OWB and professional use
Outside-waistband and duty programs define mounting, leverage, retention actions, clearance and the complete installed load.
Modular platforms
Shared hole patterns and controlled adapters can support belt, MOLLE, vehicle or fixed-location interfaces when validated as an assembly.
What belongs in an OEM holster specification?
| Control area | Buyer input | Sample review |
|---|---|---|
| Fit configuration | Exact reference, accessories and permitted variants | Insertion, seating, clearance and removal |
| Carry geometry | Position, ride height, cant and access expectations | Installed orientation and user-contact review |
| Retention | Passive, adjustable or active mechanism and test method | Function on the complete approved assembly |
| Material | Sheet family, thickness, color, texture and finish | Forming detail, trim, edge and appearance |
| Commercial release | Marking, packaging, quantity and reorder controls | Golden sample and pack-out record |
Compare the dedicated IWB, OWB and duty holster programs. Then review material choices, hardware, quality controls and the OEM development workflow.
Frequently asked questions
Can one shell cover several configurations?
Only when the permitted dimensional and accessory range is deliberately designed and validated. Unapproved substitutions should not be assumed compatible.
Can mounting hardware be changed after sampling?
It can be revised, but mounting changes may alter leverage, clearance, fastener stack and retention behavior, so the resulting assembly should be reapproved.
Is a prototype ready for repeat production?
Not automatically. Repeat production should follow an identified golden sample and written controls for material, forming, trimming, assembly, function and packaging.
